Hello Prashanthi Reddy, I am currently residing in California under an H1B visa, with my client location situated within the San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). I have been exploring options to purchase a home; however, properties within this MSA are exceeding my budget. Recently, I came across a newly constructed home in the Lathrop area, which is more affordable and within my financial means. While this location falls outside my current MSA, my work is fully remote and is not expected to be impacted by the change in residence. Given my visa status and the potential implications of relocating outside the MSA, I would appreciate your guidance on any legal or immigration-related consequences of purchasing a home in a different MSA. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your advice.
Since you’re working from home, your work location will change if you change your address since this will be outside of the MSA you would be required to file an amendment. You can only change your work location once the amendment has been received by USCIS..
